PREVIEW: Hanover Prepares for Undefeated MSJ

HANOVER, Ind. – Hanover College (3-3 overall, 3-0 HCAC) host Mount St. Joseph University (6-0 overall, 3-0 HCAC) on Saturday Oct. 22 as they celebrate Hall of Fame Day. Kickoff is slated for 1:30PM at Alumni Stadium.

Hanover College is excited to host Hall of Fame Day welcoming four new members to the Panther Wall of Honor. The Bue and Red welcome men's basketball athlete Thad McCracken '04, men's basketball athlete Matt Moore '05, men's cross country and track athlete Fran Quigley '84, and men's cross country and track athlete Richard Veach '88.

Hanover's Offense Rolls Past Manchester
Hanover put up 515 total yards of offense in their 51-20 win over Manchester University (1-5 overall, 0-3 HCAC). Manchester landed the first punch with a 66 yard touchdown run on the third play of the game, after that Hanover was in complete control.

Senior Quarterback Matthew Weimer (Gerogetown, Ind.) completed 25 passes for 282 yards and two touchdowns. In the second quarter, senior Hunter Eads (Batavia, Ohio) was on the receiving end of a 94 yard touchdown pass from Weimer. Eads finished the game as the Panthers leading receiver, posting 155 yards on seven catches which resulted in two touchdowns.

On the ground, Hanover was led by Sophomore Austin Oppel (Brandenburg, Ky.), he carried the ball 17 times for 109 yards and three touchdowns. This was Oppel's second time reaching the century mark on the ground. Sophomore Malachi Parks (Columbus, Ind.) also contributed on the ground with 91 yards on 11 carries, including a fourth quarter touchdown rush.

Junior Brody Luker (New Palestine, Ind.) recorded his third interception of 2022 to go along with four tackles. Luker leads the Panthers with 40 tackles on the season. Sophomore David Wall (Sellersburg, Ind.) had two TFLs including Hanover's only sack of the game.
 
The Mount Continues Hot Start
Anderson (0-6 overall, 0-3 HCAC) was no match for Mount St. Joe as the Lions improve to 6-0. The Lions' defense was a stonewall in a 59-3 victory, Anderson was held to only 95 yards of total offense. The Lions recorded 10 tackles in the backfield, five of those being sacks.

On offense, star running back Cornell Beacham Jr. had a season high 168 rushing yards on only 14 carries. On the season, Beacham Jr. has 712 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in six games. The Lions finished the game with 405 team rushing yards and five touchdowns.
 
Matchup Preview
Saturday's matchup will be a test of good offense versus good defense. MSJ has put up over 55 points in their last three games, while Hanover's defense has held their opponents to 20 points per game since the bye week. Historically, Hanover has struggled against MSJ, the Lions have won 8 of the last 10 contests between the two schools. In 2021, The Mount won 23-6, behind a rushing attack that put up 351 yards.
