Box Score FRANKLIN, Ind. – Hanover (13-12 overall, 4-4 HCAC) rallied from a set down to claim the Golden Ball on Wednesday evening in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Franklin 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-11, 25-19).
Leading the charge for Hanover was freshman
CC Shick (Fort Thomas, Ky.) with a game-high 12 kills and an impressive .233 hitting percentage.
The Panthers got a slow start in set one finding themselves on the wrong side of a 15-5 deficit. However, Hanover refused to roll over as they slowly chipped at the difference using a six-point rally paced by junior
Aubrey Walton (Linton, Ind.) to cut the score to 19-13. The rally continued with the Blue and Red connecting on four straight points before the Grizzles secured the 25-23 set win.
The momentum carried into set two as Hanover battled from behind. This time senior
Meredith Deckard (Bedford, Ind.) paced the surge from behind the service line giving HC the 13-9 advantage. However, Franklin refused to go away knotting the contest at 18-18 when freshman
Maddie Robertson (Mitchell, Ind.) landed a kill that propelled Hanover to victory, 25-22.
Set three would see HC waste little time jumping on top using a 13-0 run to claim the 24-9 advantage. The outburst continued as senior
Emma Harmon (Carmel, Ind.) charted the Panthers final point en route to the 25-11 win.
The final set of the evening found Franklin leading when Harmon landed a kill that sparked the Panther offense. HC rallied to the 15-10 lead behind the service of Walton that forced a Grizzle timeout. The Blue and Red never looked back securing the Golden Ball and the match, 25-19.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday when they celebrate Senior Day with Rose-Hulman. First serve is set for 2:00 PM.
