Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. – Hanover (10-9 overall, 1-1 HCAC) dropped a five set heartbreaker at 2021 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season winner Earlham, 22-25, 25-20, 25-17, 24-26, 13-15.
Set one opened as a back-and-forth battle with neither team leading by more than two points when the Quakers were able to land the final three points of the set capturing the 25-22 win.
However, set two saw the Panther offense awake as they surged ahead 8-5 following a sophomore
Jessie Stenger (St. Leon, Ind.) kill. Freshman
CC Shick (fort Thomas, Ky.) also began to click as she connected for a kill that pushed the HC difference to 14-10. Earlham looked to respond but a pair of attacking errors plagued their rally as Hanover took set two, 25-20.
The momentum carried into set three with the Blue and Red jumping out to the 4-1 advantage behind the attack of Shick. Junior
Casey Dunn (Fort Thomas, Ky.) then paced a four-point rally from behind the service line that saw HC push the difference to 14-7. They never looked back as Stenger landed the set winning kill, 25-17.
The Quakers refused to go away as they surged ahead in set four 12-4 when the Panthers came roaring back. They were able to knot the contest after an eight-point rally led by sophomore
Maggie Schweitzer (Shelbyville, Ind.) locked the score at 24-24. However, a Hanover hiccup surrendered the set 26-24.
The final set of the contest saw neither team willing to give an edge when a freshman
Elliot Mays (Jeffersonville, Ind.) kill locked the score at 12-12. But Earlham deemed to much as they rattled off the final three points en route to the 15-13 victory.
