HANOVER, Ind. – Hanover (4-4 overall) fell in a windy Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon with Rose-Hulman at Alumni Stadium. The Panthers surrendered the contest 47-17.
Leading Hanover was senior
Matthew Weimer (Georgetown, Ind.) with two rushing touchdowns, while senior
Devonte Hardiman chalked up 12 total tackles including one for a loss.
The Panthers drew first blood in the opening frame as
Matthew Weimer rushed left for two yards and the score, 7-0. The scoring play capped off a six play 29-yard drive that included a 10-yard rush by sophomore
Austin Oppel (Brandenburg, Ky.).
However, Rose-Hulman responded on their next possession going the length of the field on 13 plays, tying the score at 7-7. They added one final strike as time expired pushing the difference to 14-7.
Weimer deemed clutch once more for the Panthers as he found the endzone for the second time in the first half rushing straight into the heart of the Fightin' Engineers defense for the score, 24-14. The drive traveled 75 yards on just eight plays.
Hanover charted one final score in the contest with the special team's unit delivering. Hanover started the drive at the Rose-Hulman 47 when Weimer found senior
Hunter Eads (Batavia, Ohio) for a 22 yard connection on third and five. Sophomore
Yoann Kinanga (Jeffersonville, Ind.) handled the rest connecting for a 37 yard field goal, 30-17.
The second half, however, was all Rose-Hulman as they scored 23 unanswered points including 16 in the fourth quarter en route to the 47-17 victory.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 12 when they travel to rival Franklin for the playing of the 92
nd Bell Game.
