HANOVER, Ind. – The Panthers advance to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Championship to be played on Saturday evening after dominating no. 4 seed Transylvania, 90-74.
Hanover landed four players in double figures paced by senior
Isaac Hibbard (New Albany, Ind.) with a game-high 24 points. Junior
Ty Houston (Union, Ky.) netted 18 points while sophomore
Max Greenamoyer (Zionsville, Ind.) added 17 points and sophomore
Ryan Morris (McCordsville, Ind.) 11 points.
Much like their last meeting these two teams went back-an-forth for most of the opening frame when sophomore
Matt Munoz (Indianapolis, Ind.) went to work capping a Panther 6-0 run that propelled them on top 10-5. However, the Pioneers came storming back using a pair of three-pointers to cut the difference to 16-14 at the 12:03 mark.
Hibbard displayed his range hitting a three-pointer with 10:39 to play before connecting on a scoop and score that pushed the lead to 23-14. It would reach double digits following a fast break layup by Morris who helped propel HC to 43-34 halftime advantage.
Houston led the Panther attack in the second half as he rounded off another Hanover run that pushed them in front 51-41. The hot shooting ensued for the Blue and Red as Greenamoyer started to heat up from three-point sending HC to the 65-51 lead.
Hanover's largest lead to date came with just 9:23 remaining as Houston provided his first three-point dagger of the evening, 70-53. The Panthers never looked back shooting 30-of-53 from the floor in rout to the HCAC Tournament advancing victory.
The Panthers will return to Collier Arena on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 6:00 pm taking on the winner of no. 2 Rose-Hulman and no. 6 Franklin for the HCAC Tournament Championship.
