Baseball drops game one at Maryville; Game two halted due to weather

MARYVILLE, TN – The Panthers opened their winter break trip this afternoon with a three game series at Maryville College. The Scots took game one 4-1 before game two was halted due to inclement weather.

GAME ONE
Junior Matthew Alter (Indianapolis, Ind.) got the start in game one for the Blue and Red pitching six complete innings with six strike outs, walking just three batters.

Maryville surged ahead early in the opener as a triple to right field in the bottom of the second inning pushed the Scots in front 2-0. They tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh following a Panther miscue, 4-0.

Hanover looked to spark a late rally as senior Andrew Littlefield (Louisville, Ky.) went yard for the Blue and Red but the comeback wasn't meant to be as the Scots retired the side and secured the 4-1 win.

GAME TWO
Littlefield connected for his second homerun on the afternoon as he opened game two in a big way for the Blue and Red. The senior notched a lead-off homer to put HC on top 1-0.

The top of the third inning would see the Panthers tack on another run as freshman Sam Perkins (Louisville, Ky.) drew a walk before sophomore Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.) hit a double through the left side to push the difference to 2-0.

But the excitement wouldn't last long as the Scots responded with a four run third inning to capture the 4-2 advantage.

The top of the fifth saw a scoring frenzy as junior Jacob Dupps (Louisville, Ky.) used patience at the plate scoring Littlefield. Sophomore Connor Farnsley (Jeffersonville, Ind.) would also draw a bases loaded walk before sophomore Eric Roudebush (New Palestine, Ind.) tripled to center field clearing the base paths, 7-4.

However, the game was halted due to inclement weather and will resume on Sunday afternoon.
