HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover women's lacrosse team celebrated senior day on Saturday afternoon welcoming Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference foe Franklin to Alumni Stadium. The Panthers erased a three-goal deficit to win an overtime thriller 10-9.
The Blue and Red were paced by sophomore
Masi McNally-Henriksen (Zionsville, Ind.) with a game-high four goals on four shots. Senior
Emily Christian (Louisville, Ky.) provided the game winning strike traveling coast to coast.
Senior
Anne Breeding (Miamisburg, Ohio) opened the overtime thriller as she found the back of the net just moments into the contest to push HC in front 1-0.
However, Franklin attempted to spoil the festivities using four straight goals to surge ahead 4-1.
Hanover halted the charge as sophomore
Masi McNally-Henriksen (Zionsville, Ind.) delt the blow before another Grizzly strike saw them push their lead to 5-2 at the break.
The second half would see the senior duo of
Britney Hernandez (Louisville, Ky.) and
Milah Young (Granger, Ind.) dominate as they navigated the Franklin defense and cut the score to 5-4.
The Panther stampede ensued as
Masi McNally-Henriksen charted a hat trick to give HC their first lead since the opening stanza, 7-6.
But again, Franklin responded flipping the script for the 9-8 lead when Young stepped up big finding the equalizer with just four minutes remaining to force overtime.
Christian handled the rest taking the ball coast-to-coast for the HCLC game-winning victory.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, April 23 when they welcome Mt. St. Joseph. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
