HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover Panthers displayed success at the dish in rout to a sweep of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Transylvania. HC took game one 19-7 before winning the twinbill 20-13.
GAME ONE
After a Hanover slow start, the Panther offense erupted using a four run second inning to surge ahead. Senior
Andrew Littlefield (Louisville, Ky.) led the outburst as he crushed a ball over the right field fence scoring three Panther runs, 4-2.
Hanover added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning as both freshman
Jake Danneman (Edgewood, Ky.) and sophomore
Eric Roudebush (New Palestine, Ind.) picked up RBI to extend the lead, 6-3.
However, the Pioneers battled back capitalizing on a Panther mishap in the top of the fourth inning to flip the script and claim the 7-6 advantage.
The homerun ball paid dividends once again for the Blue and Red as sophomore
Connor Farnsley (Jeffersonville, Ind.) smashed a dinger to left field knotting the contest 7-7.
The Blue and Red reclaimed the lead in the fifth inning before tacking on three insurance runs in the seventh inning off RBI by Danneman and Littlefield, 10-7.
Junior
Jacob Dupps (Louisville, Ky.) helped blow the game wide open in the bottom of the eighth as he singled to left field scoring two runs before homers by freshman
Sam Perkins (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomore
Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.) secured the commanding 19-7 victory.
Junior
Matthew Alter (Indianapolis, Ind.) picked up the win for the Blue and Red on the bump while junior
Charlie Joyce (Indianapolis, Ind.) charted his seventh save of the year.
GAME TWO
Much like game one, the Panthers found themselves trailing early when Christie connected for an RBI single to left field in the bottom of the third inning followed by a senior
Charlie Burton (Columbus, Ind.) hit that plated two more runs to push HC on top 3-2.
However, the Pioneers responded in the top of the fifth inning reclaiming the 5-3 advantage when Hanover once again spoiled their rally.
Farnsley provided the clutch hit in the bottom half of the inning with a triple to center field scoring two runs, 5-4.
The Blue and Red tacked on three more runs in the sixth inning with the duo of Burton and Farnsley deeming successful, 8-4.
Transy made another push in the top of the seventh inning connecting for a grand slam to move to 11-8.
Littlefield responded for the Panthers crushing his second homerun of the afternoon off the scoreboard in the bottom half of the inning to knot the score 11-11 before Hanover ultimately won the contest with a seven run eighth inning, 20-12.
Hanover returns to action on Wednesday, April 27 when they travel to Denison. Game time is set for 5:00 PM.
