TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Panthers split a twin bill with Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Rose-Hulman on Wednesday evening, winning the nightcap under the stars 10-3.
Hanover moves to 8-13 overall and 3-3 in HCAC action.
GAME ONE
The Panther offense erupted in the first inning as Senior
Charlie Burton (Columbus, Ind.) provided the big stick with a homerun that plated three runs. Hanover added one more run later in the inning as Pennington recorded the RBI off a sacrifice fly to center field scoring junior
Jacob Dupps (Louisville, Ky.), 4-0.
However, the Fightin' Engineers responded using an eight run second inning and a two run third inning to claim the 10-4 advantage.
The top of the fifth inning would see another Panther four run outburst with sophomore
Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.) leading the charge. The junior picked up two RBI as he drove in the final two runs of the inning to cut the difference to 10-8.
Hanover claimed the lead in the top of the seventh inning as Christie doubled scoring freshman
Jake Danneman (Edgewood, Ky.). Sophomore
Connor Farnsley (Jeffersonville, Ind.) knotted the game at 10-10 with a RBI single.
The Panthers would flip the script off the bat of freshman Andrew Osterling (Batesville, Ind.) who plated two runners in rout to the 12-10 advantage.
Rose-Hulman used a seven run seventh inning to claim the 17-12 lead when HC looked to rally once more. They added three runs in the top of the eighth inning as Burton capitalized on a Rose-Hulman mishap.
However, the Fightin' Engineers deemed too much winning game one, 18-15.
GAME TWO
In a contest that finished after midnight the Panthers reigned victorious 10-3.
After a scoreless two innings, the Fightin' Engineers would strike claiming the one run advantage.
However, the Hanover bright spot came in the fourth inning as Dupps doubled plating the Panthers first run. The RBI continued as Osterling delivered pushing HC on top when Littlefield drew an RBI walk. Farnsley added the Panthers fifth run before Dupps closed out the inning with his third RBI of the match-up, 7-1.
Rose-Hulman cut the difference to as little 7-3 when HC delivered three insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning.
Sophomore
Brady Pennington (Speedway, Ind.) reached on a Rose-Hulman error in left field with two outs that sent three Panther runners to the dish in rout to the 10-3 HCAC splitting victory.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday, April 9 when they take on Earlham. First pitch is set for 12 PM from K.T. Young Ballpark.
