HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover women's lacrosse team advanced to the Championship contest of the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference Tournament, defeating rival Franklin 14-9.
Hanover finished the contest with a game-high 36 shots, 20 of which landed of frame. Leading the attack was senior
Britney Hernandez (Louisville, Ky.) with a game-high four goals on eight shots. Teammate, senior
Anne Breeding (Miamisburg, Ohio) added three goals and three assists for a game-high six points.
After surrendering the first goal to the Grizzlies, the Panther attack pounced rattling off six straight first quarter blows. Senior
Milah Young (Granger, Ind.) paced the surge as she netted a pair of back-to-back goals that helped push Hanover on top 6-1.
Franklin provided a pair of goals to open the second frame when sophomore
Taylor McNally-Henriksen halted the charge with back-to-back strikes of her own, 8-3.
Hernandez netted the final goal of the first half sending the Panthers into the intermission with the 9-4 advantage.
However, Franklin looked to make one final push in the second half rattling off three fourth quarter goals to pull within 13-9 when Hernandez slammed the door and secured the HCLC semifinal victory.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday, May 7 when they take on no. 1 seed Transylvania.
