Knoop and Shick pace the Panthers past Asbury

HANOVER, Ind. – The freshman combination of Elly Knoop (Louisville, Ky.) and CC Shick (Fort Thomas, Ky.) paced the Panther (9-8 overall) attack as they defeat non-conference foe Asbury 3-1 (23-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-19).

Knoop charted a team-high 11 kills while Shick added 10. Sophomore Molly Schwarzkopf (Greenfield, Ind.) led the defensive effort with eight total blocks.

After dropping the first set Hanover responded using an 8-0 rally to capture the 10-1 advantage behind the serve of freshman Kelsey Waggoner (Indianapolis, Ind.).

The Blue and Red continued to pour it on as freshman Maddie Robertson (Mitchell, Ind.) landed a kill that sparked another Panther rally. Robertson secured the game tying set with a kill.

Set three saw the Panthers surge once more this time led by junior Casey Dunn (Fort Thomas, Ky.) from behind the service line pushing HC out front 12-5. Asbury battled back pulling within 17-11 when Waggoner sealed the deal with a momentum crushing ill.

The final set of the contest saw the Eagles soar as they rattled off a series of points that pulled them within 8-7. However, Dunn deemed clutch once more pacing a six point rally that blew the set wide open. Hanover went on to score the final four points of the contest to claim the victory.

Hanover returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 1 when they open Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Manchester. First serve is set for 6:30 PM.
