Box Score DEFIANCE, Ohio – Second half run deemed effective for Panthers (12-7 overall, 8-4 HCAC) as they held off the swarming Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action, 95-82.
The Blue and Red were paced by the one-two combo of junior
Max Greenamoyer (Zionsville, Ind.) and junior
Matt Munoz (Indianapolis, Ind.). Greenamoyer netted 20 points while Munoz added 19 points.
Jack Wininger provided 17 points while junior
Brice Gilman (Clinton, Ind.) picked up a double-double with 13 points and 11 assists.
Neither team was able to gain an edge early in the first half as they exchanged buckets for several minutes when Gilman connected from three-point before a
Matt Munoz runner in the lane gave Hanover the momentum. But the Yellow Jackets refused to be swatted as they cut the difference to just 19-18 with 10:16 to play.
The Blue and Red began to show their range as they had it raining three-pointers en route to the 35-28 lead. Sophomore
Coleman Sater (Ellettsville, Ind.) handled the rest helping to propel the Panthers into the intermission with the 45-37 advantage.
The second half saw the battle ensue as Wininger went to work netting a pair of three-pointers giving HC its largest lead to date, 54-46. The excitement didn't last long with Defiance looking to play spoiler.
However, Hanover was able to combat the Yellow Jackets with a 10-0 run that saw them blow the game wide open. Leading the surge was Greenamoyer with back-to-back scores, 75-61. The three-point shot continued to fall for Hanover as Greenamoyer, Gilman and Munoz all made a splash sending the Panthers to the convincing HCAC victory.
Hanover returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 1 when they welcome Anderson in a key HCAC matchup. Game time is set for 7:30 PM.
