HANOVER, Ind. – In an intense Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference battle on Wednesday afternoon, the Panthers kicked off Homecoming week claiming a tie with area rival Franklin in dramatic fashion, 2-2.
The Blue and Red netted the game's first goal in the 17
th minute drawing a yellow card for tripping at the top of the box. Senior
Coghlin Kumler (Indianapolis, Ind.) hammered home the penalty kick for the 1-0 advantage.
Hanover entered the intermission with the 10-5 shot advantage, three of which landed on frame.
However, Franklin found the equalizer just minutes into the second half following a defensive break down in front of frame by the Panthers, 2-1.
With tensions high between the two clubs, Franklin claimed their first lead with less than a minute remaining in the game. The Grizzlies dealt what felt like the final dagger for the Blue and Red on a dime pass to the box, 2-1.
The Panthers refused to be tamed taking the wind out of the Franklin sail with just 10 ticks remaining. Freshman
Andrew Beck (Louisville, Ky.) nailed the game tying goal as he cleaned up a shot by freshman
Miles McMillen (Louisville, Ky.), 2-2.
Hanover returns to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 14 when they travel to Bluffton. Game time is set for 3:30 PM.
