Box Score HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover Panthers (3-2 overall) played a very methodical contest on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Little Giants of Wabash 10-9.
Senior
Dirk Meinhart (Elizabethtown, Ky.) led the Panthers with a team-high 14 shots and three goals. In frame, junior
Lance Guttormson (West Bend, Wis.) played a strong role charting 17 saves.
After surrendering the first goal, the Panther offense responded as senior
Dirk Meinhart fired a rocket on frame knotting the contest 1-1 at the 8:41 mark.
However, Wabash looked to pull away adding a pair of goals when Meinhart once again responded. The senior came through clutch navigating the Wabash backline for his second blow of the first quarter, 3-2.
The second quarter would see the Panthers attempt to erase a 5-2 deficit as sophomore
Owen Cuniffe (Indianapolis, Ind.) and sophomore
Owen Parker (O'Fallon, Mo.) both made their way into the score's column pulling HC within 5-4 at the 7:24 point.
The scoring frenzy ensued with sophomore
Alex Kleinhelter (Fishers, Ind.) dealing the blow at the 4:02 mark following a fantastic assist by junior
Zach Stone (Elizabethtown, Ky.) to pull Hanover within 6-5 at the half.
Hanover claimed their first lead of the contest in the third frame with freshman
Colin O'Brien (Somers, Conn.) netting a goal at the 9:52 mark before Kleinhelter propelled the Panthers on top, 7-6.
However, Wabash refused to be shutout scoring three straight goals to reclaim the 9-7 advantage when Cuniffe stole the momentum getting a pass from junior
Nick Adams (Greenwood, Ind.).
Meinhart added the games final blow with seconds remaining but the comeback was just a little to late as Wabash secured the win.
Hanover returns to action Wednesday, March 22 when they travel to DePauw. Face-off is slated for 7:00 PM.
