ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. – Hanover (4-12 overall) fell on day one of the Pioneer Classic, dropping the opener to Calvin before dropping the nightcap to no. 11 ranked Linfield.
GAME ONE
After a slow start to the year, the Panther offense erupted against Calvin. Sophomore
Dani Steward (Shelbyville, Ind.) got the day started in the top of the first inning as she jacked a RBI single scoring senior
Kendra Hutchison (Lafayette, Ind.), 1-0.
Sophomore
Carson Kruse (Fort Branch, Ind.) followed it up with an RBI double to right field that scored Steward pushing the Panther difference to 2-0. Later in the inning, senior
Katherine Dickinson (Francisco, Ind.) continued to have a hot bat ripping an RBI single when freshman
Cadence Northern (Jeffersonville, Ind.) singled scoring the innings final run, 4-0.
However, Calvin responded in the bottom of the third inning scoring five runs on four hits.
Hanover refused to be denied as sophomore
Mallorie Fultz (Greenfield, Ind.) showed off her power with a homerun in the top of the fourth inning, 5-5. Not to be out done, teammate
Carson Kruse went yard pushing the Hanover lead to 9-5.
Calvin once again stormed back using a four run bottom half of the inning to knot the contest at 9-9.
The top of the fifth inning saw the Panthers plate their final run of the afternoon as freshman
Elliot Mays (Jeffersonville, Ind.) singled through the middle putting HC on top 10-9.
Calvin got the final say adding nine runs over the course of the next two innings en route to the win.
GAME TWO
The night cap saw Hanover fall behind in the bottom of the first inning as no. 11 ranked Linfield scored eight runs on seven hits and a Panther error.
Linfield added to their lead finishing with 15 runs on 17 hits.
Hanover returns to action on Sunday, March 19 as they take on George Fox and Spalding as part of the Pioneer Classic.
