ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. – The Hanover Panthers (5-13 overall) split the final day of the Pioneer Classic dropping the morning session to George Fox 6-1 before battling to a 7-1 victory over Spalding.
GAME ONE
In the contest with George Fox, Hanover found themselves trialing after surrendering three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
The Panthers responded getting one run back in the next half inning as freshman
Sydnie Raisor (Campbellsburg, Ky.) hit a double to right field before sophomore
Lauren Beaman (Indianapolis, Ind.) singled to center field picking up the RBI, 3-1.
However, George Fox scattered three runs over the next five innings to claim the 6-1 lead.
The Panthers looked to rally in the top of the seventh inning with Beaman drawing a lead-off walk before freshman
Cadence Northern (Jeffersonville, Ind.) singled to left field. With runners on second and third base senior
Kendra Hutchison (Lafayette, Ind.) looked to drive in a run but untimely fell unsuccessful as George Fox was able to retire the side and secure the win.
Beaman got the start in the circle, pitching a complete game with four strikeouts.
GAME TWO
Panthers surged ahead in their final contest of the Pioneer Classic against Spalding as Hutchison doubled to right field before senior
Kensie Bradley (Greenfield, Ind.) drew a walk. Raisor handled the rest connecting on an RBI sacrifice fly to right field giving HC the 1-0 lead in the first inning.
The Blue and Red added a run in the bottom of the second inning with freshman
Elliot Mays (Jeffersonville, Ind.) picking up the RBI on a single to center field scoring Beaman, 2-0.
The Golden Eagles pushed their first run of the contest across the plate in the top of the fourth inning before senior
Courtney Chookie (Warsaw, Ind.) was able to retire tine side.
The Blue and Red blew the game wide open in the bottom of the fifth inning as
Carson Kruse went yard for a two run bomb but not before Hutchison charted a homerun pushing the difference to 5-1. The scoring frenzy ensued as Northern charted an RBI single later in the inning.
The final Panther run came in the sixth inning with freshman
Sam Osborne (Brownsburg, Ind.) provided the RBI single and propelled HC to victory.
Hanover returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 21 when they travel to Asbury. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
