HANOVER, Ind. – The Panther (8-14 overall) softball team captured a doubleheader split on Sunday afternoon as they took game one from the Vikings of Augustana 5-2 before falling in the night cap 0-0.
GAME ONE
After giving up two runs in the top of the first inning, the Panther offense went to work. Freshman
Sydnie Raisor (Campbellsburg, Ky.) picked up the team's first RBI as she scored senior
Kendra Hutchison (Lafayette, Ind.), 1-0. The scoring frenzy ensued as senior
Kensie Bradley (Greenfield, Ind.) scored knotting the contest at 2-2.
The bottom half of the second inning saw Hutchison chart an RBI as she doubled to right field scoring
Elliot Mays, 3-2.
The final Panther runs came in the bottom of the sixth inning as Hutchison picked up another RBI before a Augustana hiccup propelled HC to the 5-2 win.
Sophomore
Lauren Beaman (Indianapolis, Ind.) collected the win in the circle throwing a complete game with four strikeouts.
GAME TWO
Augustana surged ahead in game two scoring one run in the second inning and three in the fourth inning for the 4-0 advantage.
They added an insurance run in the top of the fifth inning before plating two runs in the top of the sixth inning en route to the Sunday afternoon split, 7-1.
The Panthers looked to rally in the bottom of the seventh inning as senior
Lexi Garloch (Salem, Ind.) charted the lone RBI off a single to shallow right field but Augustana was able to retire the threat.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday, April 1when they celebrate Senior Day with Manchester. First pitch is slated for 1:00 PM.
