CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Panthers (3-7 overall, 2-1 HCAC) claimed a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference double overtime thriller on Sunday afternoon knocking off the Lions of MSJ, 11-10.
Hanover was paced in the contest by junior
Katie Comer (Indianapolis, Ind.) with four goals on seven shots. Junior
Taylor McNally-Henriksen (Zionsville, Ind.), junior
Mya Urba (Westfield, Ind.), and junior
Masi McNally-Henriksen (Zionsville, Ind.) all finished with two goals apiece.
After surrendering the first goal, the Hanover offense went to work netting back-to-back strikes for the 2-1 advantage.
However, the Lions tied the contest at the 14:47 mark in the second frame 2-2.
Comer responded picking up her second goal moments later on a man-up situation before junior
Maggie Donovan (Zionsville, Ind.) made her way into the scores column giving HC the 4-3 lead.
MSJ refused to be tamed closing out the first half with back-to-back strikes for the 6-5 advantage.
The second half saw the back-an-forth battle continue between the two teams when Mount St. Joseph was able to claim their largest lead at the 7:38 point in the third, 9-7.
Taylor McNally-Henriksen halted the charging Lions when a Comer strike knotted the contest at 10-10 with 6:16 to remaining in regulation.
The winning strike came in double overtime from the stick of
Masi McNally-Henriksen propelling the Panthers to the HCAC victory.
The Blue and Red return to action on Wednesday, April 26 when they welcome Transylvania to Alumni Stadium. Game time is set for 4:00 PM.
