HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover (7-9 overall) men's lacrosse team saw their season come to an end on Friday afternoon as they fell to Southwestern (Tex.) as part of the semifinal round of the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference, 14-4.
Hanover was paced in the contest by senior
Dirk Meinhart (Elizabethtown, Ky.) with a team-high 12 shots. Teammates, sophomore
Alex Kleinhelter (Fishers, Ind.) and junior
Nick Adams (Greenwood, Ind.) delt two goals apiece.
In frame, junior
Lance Guttormson (West Bend, Wis.) charted a game-high 15 saves through 60 minutes of action.
The Panthers brought the momentum early with Kleinhelter pushing HC out front 1-0 at the 11:31 mark in the first quarter.
However, the Pirates stole the excitement netting six straight strikes for the 6-1 lead.
Hanover combated the attack with a pair of back-to-back blows from Kleinhelter and Adams cutting the difference to 6-3 with 4:34 to play in the third frame.
The final Panther goal came from the stick of Adams as Hanover surrendered the contest 14-4.
Defensively, Hanover held the Pirates in check for much of the contest allowing just seven goals through three complete frames.
Hanover finished the season as winners of the north after posting a 4-0 HCLC mark.
