Box Score MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Panther volleyball team (1-0 overall) opened the 2023 campaign with a straight set victory defeating Brevard (25-10, 25-16, 25-16) on Friday afternoon as part of the Maryville Labor Day Classic.
Hanover was led in the contest by sophomore
Elliot Mays (Jeffersonville, Ind.) and freshman
Abbey McCoy (Indianapolis, Ind.) tying a game-high eight kills.
Set one saw the Panthers dominate using an eight-point rally to claim the commanding 21-8 advantage. Junior
Maggie Schweitzer (Shelbyville, Ind.) led the rally from the service line before sophomore
CC Shick (Fort Thomas, Ky.) secured the 25-10 victory. Shick finished the set with a team-high five kills.
The momentum carried into set two as Hanover claimed the 11-4 lead. However, Brevard refused to roll over pulling within 17-15 when Mays stifled the tornados. Freshman
Madison McCubbins (Mooresville, Ind.) handled the rest recording a set winning service ace, 25-16.
After falling behind early in set three, the Blue and Red remained poise as McCubbins landed an ace to swing the momentum back in HC's favor. Senior
Casey Dunn (Fort Thomas, Ky.) handled the rest leading an 11-0 run en route to the straight set victory, 25-16.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 2 when they take on Huntingdon at 11:00 AM followed by Classic host Maryville at 3:00 PM.
