Box Score WILMORE, Ky. – Hanover (11-4 overall) captured a hard fought five setter (25-17, 23-25, 18-25, 25-19, 15-11) on Wednesday evening at Asbury.
Set one served-up as a back-an-forth battle when Hanover used a four point rally to capture the 20-14 advantage. Senior
Casey Dunn (Fort Thomas, Ky.) handled the rest from behind the service line propelling HC to the set one 25-17 win.
However, Asbury responded in the next set claiming the small 11-7 lead. The Panthers rallied knotting the contest back at 14-14 after a sophomore
Elliot Mays (Jeffersonville, Ind.) kill. The competitive battle ensued before Hanover ultimately surrendered the set 25-23.
The Asbury Eagles carried the momentum into set three using a short rally to capture the 14-7 advantage. However, sophomore
CC Shick (Fort Thomas, Ky.) landed a kill that saw Hanover cut the difference to 15-13. But again, Asbury flipped the script capturing the set 25-18.
Hanover generated momentum in set four as junior
Jessie Stenger (St. Leon, Ind.) connected for a kill that capped a 7-0 run for the 19-13 lead. Asbury continued to hang around cutting the deficit to 19-17 when back-to-back kills by
Molly Schwarzkopf forced a fifth set, 25-19.
After being tied 7-7 in the final set, the Panther offense controlled the rest pushing to the 13-10 advantage before freshman
Abbey McCoy (Indianapolis, Ind.) dealt a match winning service ace.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 30 when they travel to Defiance. First serve is slated for 5:00 PM.
