Hanover, IN - The Panthers hosted the Berea College Mountaineers today in a warm & breezy afternoon conference match-up.
HC came out hot and started dominating the game right away, taking control of every aspect of play. The scoring came early and often from the Panthers, starting with freshman midfielder
Izzy Phillips scoring her first of the year, thanks to the assisted two-man effort of senior forward
Beth Cook and senior back
Clara Finneseth. Less than two minutes later
Beth Cook would go on the attack herself, scoring thanks to a well-timed assist from senior back
Kate Bettner.
Hanover continued to stay aggressive and pressure the Mountaineers defensive unit, and
Kate Bettner found herself able to capitalize with the ball at her feet once again, scoring her seventh goal of the season, coming off an assist from sophomore midfielder
Cam Horsley. Less than twenty seconds late,
Kate Bettner would combine with sophomore midfielder
Kaleigh Schirmer to assist
Cam Horsley, making the score HC 4, BC 0.
Hanover went into the half up 4-0, and out-shooting their opponent 17 to 1.
The Panthers did not slow down coming out of the break - picking up right where they left off, sophomore midfielder
Kaleigh Schirmer scored her third goal of the year on an incredible individual effort. Just moments later,
Beth Cook would score her second of the afternoon on an assist from senior back
Clara Finneseth.Â
As the final fifteen minutes began, HC continued to play fantastic team-ball, and had some young reserves stepping up and showing just how deep and talented this roster truly is. The scoring continued as freshman back
Ellie Gawrys netted her first career goal thanks to an assist from teammate and senior midfielder
Brooke Early. Freshman forward
Emma Gill would also add to HC's massive goal total off an assist from freshman midfielder
Ginny Young. Finally, sophomore midfielder
Chelsey Hair would cap it off at 10-0, scoring her first goal of the year, assisted by
Brooke Early and junior midfielder
Grace Caroline Linam.
Hanover went on to defeat the Mountaineers 10-0, with 37 total shots, and putting 25 on frame, forcing the Berea goalkeepers to combine for 15 total saves.
The Panthers are back between the lines next Wednesday, vs Transylvania University on the Panthers home field at 3:30PM EST.
