Womens Soccer Glides Past Bluffton for Senior Day

Hanover, IN - Today the Lady Panthers celebrated seniors Clara Finneseth, Nora Ludwig, Kate Bettner, Brooke Early, and Beth Cook (and their families) for senior day during Hanover's beautiful homecoming weekend in a conference match-up against the Beavers of Bluffton University (3-4-2, 0-1-0).

The start of the contest saw both teams feeling each other out a little, and not forcing much more than what was given to them. After twenty minute of play however, Hanover would take  control of the game, and not even consider looking back.

In the twenty-first minute of play, the Panthers would strike for their first goal of the afternoon, as senior forward Beth Cook tallied her 6th assist of the 2024 season by finding teammate anf fifth-year forward Callen Johnson for her 4th goal of the season.

Beth Cook continued to be the catalyst HC's attacking press, and just eight minutes later would find another open teammate in senior back Kate Bettner for her 5th goal of the year, and Cook's 7th assist. The Panthers now lead 2-0 heading into the halftime break, and out-shooting their opponent 13-4.

The second half was all Hanover, out-shooting their opponent 15-1 in the second, and taking 8 corner kicks in the half as well. Highlights from the half included four different goals from four different scorers. The first was a goal by sophomore midfielder Kaleigh Schirmer, her first of the year, assisted by fifth-year forward Callen Johnson.

Around the sixty-three minute mark, Kate Bettner would tally her second of the day off an assist from senior midfielder Brooke Early. Then, just four-minutes later, sophomore midfielder Cam Horsley would make the most of one of those 8 corner kicks by placing a ball perfectly into the top left corner from a right-side corner kick for what would go on to be the sweetest looking goal of the day.

Nearing the final five-minutes of play, freshman forward Lily Clark would earn her first career goal, assisted by fifth-year forward Bri Matis, making the final score HC 6, BU 0.

However, the ladies had one more victory to celebrate as after the contest concluded, it was announced that senior back Kate Bettner was crowned Homecoming Royalty for the 2024 2024 Hanover College Homecoming Court.

Hanover, now 7-2-0 and 2-0-0 in conference, head to Terre Haute, IN to take on Rose-Hulman for their next game on Wednesday October 9th. Kick-off is set for 7:00PM EST.
