HANOVER, Ind. – Junior
Kady Clancy (Scottsburg, Ind.) paced the Panthers (15-7 overall, 13-2 HCAC) past Rose-Hulman in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening, 78-73.
Clancy finished with a team-high 22 points, setting a new career best. Junior
Katherine Benter (Brownstown, Ind.) added 14 points while freshman
Sammy Berman (Indianapolis, Ind.) added 11 points. Sophomore
Kaitlyn Lorenzi (Columbus, Ind.) and senior
Taylor Heath (Fairland, Ind.) finished the evening with 10 points.
The Panther offense erupted in the opening moments of the first quarter with Clancy pacing the surge. Hanover was able to claim the double-digit lead at the 7:30 mark, 10-0. However, Rose-Hulman settled in responding with a run that pull them within 15-10. The high paced contest saw Rose-Hulman knot the score at 20-20 through one complete.
With all the momentum, the Rose-Hulman offense fired on all cylinders capturing their first lead just minutes into the second quarter. However, back-to-back layups by Clancy and a freshman
Sammy Berman jumper flipped the script. Hanover was able to reclaim the double-digit halftime lead, 45-32, led by 14 first half points by Clancy.
The Panther offense remained red hot in the second half using an 8-0 run capped by a Lorenzi fastbreak layup for the commanding difference. Hanover entered the final period leading 58-44.
Rose-Hulman looked to complete the comeback in the fourth period as they were able to use their defense to generate some offense. The Fightin' Engineers forced a Panther timeout at the 8:31 point pulling within 58-49. Rose-Hulman got as close as 64-61 with under four to play before Hanover was able to right the ship. Hanover used success at the free throw to propel them to the HCAC victory.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 10 when they hit the road for Defiance. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM.
