LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Panthers (3-9 overall) split a doubleheader on Thursday evening at Spalding, winning game one in six innings, 9-0 before surrendering game two in five innings, 13-4.
GAME ONE
IN THE CIRCLE
Junior
Lauren Beaman (Indianapolis, Ind.) claimed the victory in the circle as she pitched a two-hit shutout. The junior added one strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers scored in the top of the second inning as a freshman
Haley Kiefner (Indianapolis, Ind.) pop fly to center field scored the game's first run, 1-0.
Hanover extended their lead in the third inning following contact by freshman
LauRie Harmless (Coatesville, Ind.) who doubled off the left field wall picking up her first RBI of the evening, 3-0.
With all the momentum, the Panthers remained red hot at the dish. Sophomore
Sydnie Raisor (Campbellsburg, Ky.) added the clutch single through the middle before a freshman
Sophie Markowizc (Greenwood, Ind.)hard hit ball to left gave HC the 7-0 difference. The final runs of the contest came from the bat of junior
Mal Fultz (Greenfield, Ind.) en route to the win.
GAME TWO
IN THE CIRCLE
Beaman got the start before junior
Dani Steward (Shelbyville, Ind.) pitched relief. Steward charted two innings with two strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Junior
Carson Kruse (Fort Branch, Ind.) helped propel HC to the 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a double to left field before a Markowizc triple to right center propelled Hanover on top 3-0.
However, Spalding responded using a six run second inning to flip the script, 6-3.
The Panthers final run came in the top of the fourth inning with Steward dealing the clutch RBI, 6-4.
But Spalding got the final say securing the win in the bottom of the fifth inning with three runs.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday, March 9 when they host Asbury as part of their home opener. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
