Hanover Record Setting Season Continues

HANOVER, Ind. – The Panthers (12-0 overall) record-setting season continued as they pushed their win streak to 12 straight games defeating Asbury in straight sets 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-18). The 12-0 mark is the best start in program history.

Senior Jessie Stenger (St. Leon, Ind.) led Hanover with a team-high nine kills for a .263 hitting percentage. Junior Elliot Mays (Jeffersonville, Ind.) added eight kills while sophomore Megan Vogel (North Vernon, Ind.) dished out a team-best 18 assists. Freshman Madison Schicker (Fishers, Ind.) dominated the defensive effort with 18 digs.

The opening set saw the two teams battle when the Panthers rattled off seven straight points on the serve of Mays, 17-10. Stenger added a kill to push the difference to 19-11 before a series of Asbury errors secured the Hanover 25-19 win.

In set two, sophomore Abbey McCoy (Indianapolis, Ind.) sparked the Panther attack helping Hanover claim a 9-4 lead. However, Asbury hung around pulling within 13-12 before a freshman Nicole Stratford (Lanesville, Ind.) kill stole the momentum. Schicker succeeded at the service line helping knot the contest 19-19. A final 5-0 run by the Blue and Red secured the 25-21 victory.

The final set saw the Eagles soar to an 8-3 difference. But Hanover remained poise rattling off a 7-0 run capped by the service ace of Mays, 18-13. The rest was history as the Panthers secured the straight-set win.

Hanover returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 21 when they compete at Millikin.
