ADA, Ohio – The Hanover Panthers (15-3 overall) competed as part of the ONU Invitational posting a 1-2 record with a come from behind win over Wheaton.
Sophomore
Abbey McCoy (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the Panthers with a weekend-best 40 kills posting a .175 hitting percentage. Junior
Maddie Robertson (Mitchell, Ind.) charted 30 kills with an impressive .371 hitting percentage.
Defensively, freshman
Madison Schicker (Fishers, Ind.) added 63 digs, averaging 4.50 digs per set. Senior
Molly Schwarzkopf (Greenfield, Ind.) dominated at the net tallying 20 total blocks.
HEIDELBERG LEADERS
Hanover opened the weekend with the Student Princes of Heidelberg falling in the match 3-2 (25-27, 25-20, 25-22, 19-25, 13-15).
McCoy led the attack with a game-high 16 kills and three serve aces. Senior
Jessie Stenger recorded 10 kills while sophomore
Megan Vogel (North Vernon, Ind.) dealt out 26 assists.
As a unit, Hanover posted a .166 hitting percentage with 63 kills and 175 total attempts.
WHEATON LEADERS
With their backs against the wall, Hanover completed the reverse rally to defeat Wheaton in five sets 3-2 (21-25, 18-25, 27-25, 25-23, 21-19).
Stenger and McCoy tied for a team-high 12 kills with
Maddie Robertson adding 11 total kills. Schweitzer added 27 assists while Schicker picked up 29 digs.
The Panthers recorded 64 total kills with a game-high 13 service aces. Hanover also added nine blocks.
OHIO NORTHERN – LEADERS
Hanover closed out a scorching weekend taking on Invite host ONU dropping the contest 3-1 (14-25, 17-25, 28-26, 15-25).
The Blue and Red had 43 kills with 41 assists. They added 51 total digs and finished with a .107 hitting percentage.
Leading Hanover was McCoy with a team-best 12 kills. Schwarzkopf added four blocks and Schicker 14 digs.
The Panthers return to action on Friday, Oct. 4 when they open Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Manchester.
