Benter Nets 1000th Career Point in Win Over Earlham

Box Score Hanover, IN (Collier Arena) - The Panthers hosted the Quakers of Earlham College toady in another HCAC match-up. Hanover entered the game sitting at 10-3 overall and 4-2 in the HCAC, while the Quakers sat at 4-9 overall and 0-6 in league play.

The first quarter saw the Panthers get off to a blazing start as senior guard Kady Clancy set the tone early with a steal that lead to a Hanover bucket down on the other end. Following Clany's defensive lead, sophomore guard Sammy Berman came up with a block in the paint just a couple possessions later that also lead to another fast break conversion for the Panthers.

Hanover continued to keep the pressure on defensively as junior guard Alexis Wines intercepted a pass and cashed in on a transition lay-up going the other way. Sammy Berman and Kady Clancy both continued to be the catalyst for Hanover's defensive momentum as they each came away with another steal on back-to-back possessions. HC closed out the quarter 25-6 lead by senior forward Grace Bezold and her 17 first-quarter points.

As the second quarter got under way freshman guard Jaylnn Brooks opened up the scoring with a three ball from the left-wing. Minutes late, the home team brought electricity into Collier Arena as senior forward Katherine Benter scored her 1000th career point! Benter, daughter of Hanover Men's Basketball Hall of Famer and All-American David Benter, has been four-year starter for the Panthers while averaging 13.5 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 assist per game. Benter has been named All-HCAC three years in a row and aims to mark her fourth consecutive time on the ballot this season.

HC closed out the first half up 48-21 behind 23 points from Bezold and 4 steals from Clancy.

The second half of action saw a slight up-tick in scoring from the Quakers, but ultimately followed the same script as the Panthers continued to dominate every aspect of the game.

Hanover was able to walk away with the win thanks to a full team-effort and several standout individual performances, including Grace Bezold's eighth double-double of the season, 5 blocks from Sammy Berman, and 4 steals from Kady Clancy.
