Terre Haute, IN - The Hanover College women's basketball team took to the road this evening for an HCAC match-up against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The Lady Panthers entered tonight's game at 11-3 overall and 5-2 in the HCAC while Rose was 7-7 and 4-3 in conference.
The Panthers (HC) and the Fightin' Engineers (RHIT) battled back-and-forth all four quarters. Hanover was ultimately the more consistent and more efficient team - they were able to maintain the lead through the entirety of the contest, leading by as much as 10 points during the third and fourth quaters.
Rose hung around thanks to big scoring quaters in the second and the fourth, but their lackluster first and third quaters of only 8 and 14 points prevented them from ever being able to generate any sustainable momentum. Hanover played excellent defense as well, making the lives of the Fightin' Engineers all the more dreadful by creating 6 turnovers and totaling 6 blocks.
In tandem with their great team success, Hanover had several athletes give stellar individual performances in tonight's contest. Senior forward
Grace Bezold lead the Panthers in total points and stated her second consecutive game with 20+ points and 10+ rebounds with a final stat line of 25 and 11 - this marks Bezold's ninth double-double of the her illustrious 2024-25 campaign.
Sophomore guard
Sammy Berman also had an incredible outing posting a final stat-line of 11 points, 9 rebound, 4 blocks and 2 steals. Junior guard
Alexis Wines added to Hanover's impressive box-score and had herself a career night with 21 points on 5-9 from the field, 3-6 for three, and 8-12 from the stripe - this is Wines season and career high single-game point total.
The women take to the road again this Saturday, January 18th, to head to Cincinnati to take on the Lions at Mt. St. Joseph University for a 1:00PM game.
