Hanover, IN - Today, the Panthers hosted the Transylvania University Pioneers from Lexington, KY. Hanover came into the contest boasting an 11-3-2 record while the Pios came in at 10-2-2, with both sides sitting 6-0 in HCAC play, setting the stage for a gritty showdown.
HC played slow early and didn't force any plays that weren't there. Transylvania pressed hard offensively trying to scramble the Panthers formation with constant field switches and by bringing their back line high up past midfield.
The Panthers weathered the early furry from Transy and responded with some fast-paced offense of their own, resulting in an early goal in the fourteenth minute. Junior forward
Patricio Campos corralled a loose ball inside the Pios defensive box and buried one, left-footed, past the keeper near the backside pipe.
Transylvania responded with two goals of their own the rest of the way through the first-half, one in the twenty-first minute and another in the thiry-fifth minute. Transt carried this 2-1 lead into halftime.
In the second half, senior goalkeeper
Rodrigo Gutierrez Olvera Gonzalez made three saves (after having one in the first) and lead the team in minutes along with junior defender
Andrew Beck, totaling ninety minutes each.
The Panthers went on to fall 1-2 in the contest, falling to 6-1 in the HCAC. HC will return to action this Saturday in Richmond, IN to take on Earlham College. Kick-off is set for 3:30PM EST.
