Preview - The Hanover College Panthers volleyball team has secured an NCAA tournament first-round match-up after winning the HCAC Championship. HC will travel to regional-host Illinois Wesleyan, where they will face the Calvin University Knights (25-3 overall).
Hanover enters the NCAA tournament on a six game winning streak with an overall record of 21-10. After finishing the regular season as the 6-3 four seed in the HCAC, the Panthers went on to take out the one seeded Earlham College in the semi-finals round in five sets, and then defeated the two seeded Transylvania University in five sets to secure their bid to the big dance.
This is Hanover's first NCAA tournament since the 2017 season, and the fourth time since under the direction of Coach Preocanin.
Statistical Standouts to Watch For
Sophomore libero
Madison Schicker has been a huge part of the Panthers success thus far. Schicker leads the team in service aces and ranks second in the HCAC with 60 total aces. She was also the team leader in digs with 554.
Senior right side hitter
Elliot Mays was among the top three in kills, total points, and total blocks on the team, finish with 315 kills (2nd), 365 total points (2nd), and 34 total blocks (3rd). Mays's kill total was also ranked eighth in HCAC.
Junior outside hitter
Abbey McCoy proved vital on the front lines leading the team in kills and ranking fourth in conference with 353 total kills. McCoy also lead the team in points with 395.5 points and was one of two Panthers to have started in 28 matches, played in 30, and played in all 118 sets.
Senior middle hitter
Maddie Robertson finished fourth in the HCAC and lead the team in solo blocks with 19; She also lead the team in total blocks with 74. Robertson was along side the previously mentioned
Abbey McCoy in starting 28 matches, playing 30 matches, and 118 sets.
Sophomore setter
Brooke Gervers lead the Panthers in assists with 563 total assists.
As a team, the Panthers totaled 1,435 kills, 1,272 assists, 2,256 digs, 57 solo blocks, 195 block assists, and 241 service aces.
