Maryville, TN - Yesterday, the Hanover College Panthers traveled south to take on the Scots from Maryville College. Hanover was coming off back-to-back road victories over Asbury University and Berry College with an overall record of 3-1 while the Scots, who had lost their last game, sat at 6-2 overall.
In the first half, there were eight lead changes in the first thirteen minutes with both teams trading blows. Hanover's largest first half lead was six points after a three-pointer from freshman guard
Lebron Gough. The Panthers finished the first half shooting 33% from behind the arc and shot seven of eight from the free throw line, but still found themselves trailing 31 to 43 heading into the break.
The second half was nearly parallel to the first for HC - their field goal and free throw percentages dipped, their three-point percentage remained the same, and they put up 37 points. The Scots proved to be a tough adversary and put up another 40+ point half, taking down the Panthers 84-68.
Sophomore center
Malachi McNair continued to be a bright spot for the Panthers with his third consecutive double-double (fourth through five games) with 21 points and 11 assists. McNair also added two blocks and a steal to his totals.
Junior guard
CJ Walls also had a productive outing with 15 points, six assists, and five rebounds, finishing eight of ten from the free throw line.
HC will return to action to finish a five game road stretch at Berea College to take on the 2-2 Mountaineers. This will be the first HCAC match-up of the year for the now 3-2 Panthers, tip-off is set for 7:30PM EST on Wednesday night.
