Hanover Bows Out of HCAC Tournament

ANDERSON, Ind. – Hanover (16-11) saw their season come to an end on Friday evening as part of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals, falling to the no. 1 seed Anderson Ravens 84-69.

The Ravens defended their home court surging ahead 7-3 using their stout zone defense to limit the Hanover offensive opportunities. The Panthers looked to run the offense through senior Coleman Sater (Ellettsville, Ind.) as he got to the free throw line with his aggressive post play.

Anderson remained red hot draining a three-pointer with just over 15 minutes to play, sparking a 5-0 run for a 14-5 difference. Hanover subbed three coming out of the first media timeout, with senior Luke Miller (Madison, Ind.) and freshman Jack Miller (Madison, Ind.) netting a combined seven points out of the timeout.

It appeared to be the spark Hanover needed, getting back-to-back scores from Sater and Luke Miller to make the difference 19-17. The Panthers dominated the paint as sophomore CJ Walls (Louisville, Ky.) bullied the Ravens with his strength. Hanover finished with 18 points in the paint to enter the intermission trailing 42-37.

Much like the first half, Anderson came out full throttle in the second half pushing the difference to 55-46. Freshman Jeremiah Alexander (Indianapolis, Ind.) returned to the lineup in a major way connecting for a three-point before finding senior Michael Donoho (Rockport, Ind.) in the lane. Sophomore William Herald (Fort Thomas, Ky.) put on a shooting clinic tying the contest at 9:21, 59-59.

The pace of play intensified as time began to wind down in the semifinal matchup. Anderson was successful at the free throw line using that success to sustain an advantage. The difference reached its largest mark with 4:17 remaining as the Ravens drained a three-pointer in transition and never looked back.
