Box Score NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – Hanover (16-6 overall, 10-5 HCAC) used a strong third quarter to capture the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference road win on Saturday afternoon at Manchester 70-57.
Manchester kept pace with the Panther offense in the first half using the three-point line. Senior
Grace Bezold (Covington, Ky.) propelled Hanover in front in the first frame 8-4 at 5:28 when the Spartans drained a three-pointer to halt the surge. They claimed the advantage with 1:13 remaining, 10-9.
The second quarter saw senior
Katherine Benter (Brownstown, Ind.) display her range with a three-pointer that pushed Hanover back in front. The two teams exchanged points for several minutes when Manchester claimed their largest lead to date, 20-14. Sophomore
Sammy Berman (Independence, Ky.) stopped the scoreless drought by getting to the rim at the 3:48 mark. However, the Spartans remained red hot shooting and entered the break with a 27-24 lead.
Hanover looked to erase the difference in the second half as junior
Alexis Wines (Lebanon, Ind.) drained a three-pointer that flipped the Panthers on top 31-29. Senior
Kady Clancy (Scottsburg, Ind.) extended the lead with a pull-up at the 7:04 mark. But Manchester continued to hang around as they flipped the script back in their favor with a jumper. The momentum shifted toward the end of the frame in favor of the Blue and Red with a 15-4 run over three minutes that propelled them in front 52-41.
The final frame saw the Panther offense reach peak performance with a double-digit lead. Wines appeared to be the key to scoring as she netted back-to-back blows. Manchester made one final push late into the period with seven straight points that cut the difference to 62-55. Junior
Kaitlyn Lorenzi (Brentwood, Tenn.) helped close the door on the comeback with a layup with just over two minutes remaining to propel the Panthers to victory.
