Hanover, IN (Alumni Stadium) - The Panthers (now 5-2) took on the Purple Raiders from Mt Union in a late afternoon contest.
Hanover got out to a slow start, falling 6-1 in the first quarter of play. The second quarter was slightly better contested, but the Panthers still trailed 11-3 at the half.
Mt Union took advantage of their depth and used it to their advantage to extend their lead by eight through the third quarter over a Hanover team that seemed to be running on low on stamina.
HC was able to put together their best contested quarter of play in the fourth, only losing the quarter by two goals, but still fell in the contest by a margin of 24-6.
Hanover saw goals scored by four different Panthers. Junior attackman
Colin O'Brien lead the team with three goals, while senior and freshman midfielders
Owen Cuniffe and
Kasey Hospelhorn each had one, as did junior attackman
Ethan Abdoo. Senior midfielder
Owen Parker managed to stat three assists on the day, and junior attackman
Ethan Abdoo also added to his point total with an assist of his own.
The Panther defense put on an impressive display of grit despite being in the trenches most of the afternoon. Senior defenseman
Scott Dues tallied three caused turnovers and one ground-ball while freshman defenseman
Leonard Hughes lead the team with four caused turnovers and four ground-balls. Junior defenseman
Josh Adams also created two caused turnovers and picked up two ground-balls of his own. Senior goalkeeper
Lance Guttormson started the game for the Panthers and tallied four saves throughout the first half, while junior goalkeeper
Matthew Hillard finished the game for HC and made eight saves in the second half.
