Hanover Sweeps Berea in Extra Innings

HANOVER, Ind. – Hanover (9-13 overall, 5-3 HCAC) earned an extra inning sweep over Berea on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Mountaineers inside Kops-Bedel Stadium 18-0 (5 Inn.) and 6-4 (9 Inn.).
 
GAME ONE
SCORING RUNS
The Panthers dominated at the dish, scoring 18 runs on 14 hits. They surged ahead in the first inning scoring one run off the bat of freshman Ashley Fulton (Hanover, Ind.) who reached on a fielder's choice.
 
The scoring ensued in the second inning behind an RBI walk by sophomore Olivia Planck (Lexington, Ky.), 2-0.
 
Hanover was able to blow the contest wide open with a 10 run fourth inning. Senior Lauren Beaman (Indianapolis, Ind.) and freshman Lilly Cunagin (Indianapolis, Ind.) drew RBI walks before a freshman LuLu Van Beek (Noblesville, Ind.) triple saw HC in front 10-0. Junior Jade Wims (Indianapolis, Ind.) delivered an RBI off a single to center field when sophomore LauRie Harmless (Coatesville, Ind.) closed out the scoring, 12-0.
 
The Panthers added six additional runs in the fifth inning on four hits. Planck connected for the inning leading triple, scoring two runs.
 
IN THE CIRCLE
Beaman got the win in the circle, throwing three complete innings with six strikeouts. Fulton and Abby Horn both pitched relief.
 
GAME TWO
AT THE DISH
The Blue and Red plated one run in the top of the first inning following an RBI hit from the freshman Fulton, 1-0.
 
Hanover tallied two runs in the third inning for the 3-1 advantage. Beaman and Cunagin claimed one RBI apiece. Berea responded once more in the bottom half, tying the score 3-3.
 
The Panthers went on to win the contest in the top of the ninth inning as Beaman and Harmless provided a pair of clutch hits to right field. They added one final run following a Berea mishap.
 
UP NEXT
Hanover returns to action on Saturday, April 19 when they host Manchester at Kops-Bedel Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
