HC Drops Conference Opener at Home Against Spalding

Hanover, IN (Alumni Stadium) - Today, the Hanover College women's lacrosse team took on the Golden Eagles of Spalding University to open up their HCLC play for the 2025 season.

Hanover battled hard in the through the first two quarters. Spalding was able to jump out to a 3-1 lead during the first, with senior midfielder being the lone goal scorer for the Panthers, assisted by freshman attackman Quinn Cherry. HC maintained their confidence despite the two goal deficit and was able to control the pace of play for the majority of the second quarter.

The Panthers freshman attackman Quinn Cherry got right back to work to begin the second quarter, scoring unassisted around the thirteen minute mark. About two minutes would go by before Hanover would tie things up at 3-3 after senior midfielder Abby Mensing found her way to the cage once more, unassisted. Mensing would help the Panthers take the lead minutes later as she assisted freshman attackman Mallory Mahin, putting HC uo 4-3.

Spalding was able to find one more scoring opportunity late in the half, tying things up at 4-4 before heading into the break.

The Golden Eagles came out and controlled every aspect of play in the second half of action - Spalding scored six unanswered goals through the third and to start the fourth quarter. HC was able to tack on two more goals midway through the fourth as sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Madden and freshman attackman Brooklyn Walker each scored unassisted.

Ultimately the Panthers fell 6-12 in the contest. Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Williams stated an impressive 11 saves on 23 shots on goal, while freshman attackman Mallory Mahin lead the team in caused turnovers (3), and freshman midfielder Alysha Baker lead the team in ground balls (6).

The Panthers next match-up is set for Wednesday April 9th, at 6:00PM EST, at Franklin College to take on the Grizzlies.
