Panthers Tie With Golden Eagles in Spalding Tournament

Louisville, KY - The men's soccer team played in game two of their two-game weekend tournament at Spalding University. Fresh off a 2-0 on Friday in their first game of the tournament, the Panthers hoped to build on their momentum against a woeful-feeling Golden Eagles team who suffered a tough 1-5 loss in their first game of their home tournament.

The Panthers possessed well early and found opportunities on the offensive side of the field. Navigating the defense, junior forward Patricio Campos was able to find his teammate and  sophomore midfielder Cole Hubert for the goal and the assist. Hanover now lead 1-0 at the fourteen minute marker, and maintained this lead over the next thirty minutes.

With just over a minute left in the first half, Spalding was able to create a scoring opportunity of their own, and tied the game up 1-1 just before time expired in the first half.

The second half went on to be much more tightly contested. Both teams found plenty of space and were able to create looks, but ultimately couldn't convert enough of them. In the fifty-eighth minute of play, Hanover and Spalding would trade goals as sophomore midfielder Cole Hubert got in the mix making things happen again, this time assisting freshman midfielder Gavin Yearwood, and Spalding responded thirty seconds later to tie it up at 2-2.

The match ended in a stale mate at two-all, with each team tallying four total shots on cage and the keepers each having two saves.

HC will take the field again next weekend for another double-header weekend playing in the Transylvania Tournament. On Saturday, August 6th, the Panthers will take on the University of Mount Union at 3:30PM EST in Lexington, KY. Then, on Sunday, the Panthers suit up again for a 1:00PM match-up with Marietta College.
