PLAY-BY-PLAY
SET ONE
Hanover surged ahead 4-0, collecting a trio of service aces from sophomore
Brooke Gervers. Sophomore
Madison Schicker also found success from the service line as she extended the Panther difference to 14-6.
However, Spalding used the home crowd to gain momentum and a five-point rally to power in front 18-16. The excitement quickly dwindled as the Golden Eagles struggled on the attack, recording six errors on 39 total attempts, which ultimately led to a set loss.
SET TWO
Hanover was red hot in set two, posting a game-high .359 hitting percentage. Leading the charge was McCoy, who propelled HC to an 18-10 advantage. Senior
Maddie Robertson contributed to the success as she connected with junior
Megan Vogel for the set-winning point.
SET THREE
The Panthers wasted no time securing the final set, pushing ahead 10-1. The 6-0 rally saw the duo of Mays and McCoy contribute on nearly every point.
Spalding mustered what little fight they had left to give Hanover a scare when Mays landed a kill that crushed the momentum.
Hanover returns to action on Friday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 13 when they host the Hanover Invite within the friendly confines of Collier Arena.
