Hanover, IN - The women's soccer team hosted their first HCAC match-up of the 2025 season, the Franklin College Grizzlies. Hanover came in to the contest at 2-4-2 ahead of the 1-5-1 Grizzlies.
HC came out firing to begin the game and were able to find opportunities to play the ball down field with ease as the dominated time of possession.
About midway through the period, in the twenty-fourth minute, the Panthers were able to capitalize on one of their downfield opportunities. Sophomore forward Lily Clark was able to connect with sophomore forward Emma Gil to put the Pantehrs up 1-0.
Hanover remained in full control through the rest of the first-half, out pacing the Grizzlies in shots (6-0) and corner kicks (6-0). HC also won the foul battle (2-8) and time of possession.
In the second-half, the Panthers played a slower pace but maintained their lead by pressing together and making good decisions when the ball was at their feet.
Hanover found a window of opportunity nearing the final ten minutes of action, and in the eightieth-minute, the combined efforts of sophomore midfielder
Izzy Phillips and senior midfiedler
Morgan Castiglione would lead to a goal by junior midfielder
Kaleigh Schirmer. The Panthers now lead 2-0 with just over ten to go.
Minutes later, senior defender
Erin Terry as able to find sophomore forward Emma Gil in a passing lane to go up 3-0 at the 83:55 mark. The Panthers went on to win 3-0, outshooting the Grizzlies 17-1.
Hanover moves to 3-4-2 on the year and 1-0-0 in the HCAC. HC's next contest is Saturday October 4th at 1:00PM for another HCAC match-up against the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Fightin' Engineers.
