Women's Soccer Drops to 2-2 After Loss at Spalding

Louisville, KY - Today the Hanover College women's soccer team traveled to Louisville, KY to take on the Golden Eagles of Spalding University. The Panthers came into the contest with a 1-1-0 overall record, coming off 6-0 win at home against Wilmington last Sunday, while Spalding was coming off of three consecutive losses on the road at Sewanee, Maryville, and Wilmington.

The game got off to a slow start as both teams held tight defensively, making sure not to over extend too early. Neither team was able to generate much of anything on the offensive side of the ball, the Golden Eagles lead the contest with four first half shots. Panthers senior goalkeeper Emma Patterson tallied two saves in the first, keeping the score 0-0 at the break.

In the second half, the offensive action increased significantly. Spalding was able to net two goals at the fifty-first and sixty-seventh minute marks, taking a 2-0 lead with about twenty-two minutes remaining.

Hanover would do all the could to battle back, and junior midfielder Kaleigh Schirmer scored unassisted in the seventy-fifth minute, spiking the momentum and hope for the Panthers - but HC ultimately fell short, falling 2-1 to the Golden Eagles.

The Panthers, now 1-2-0, aim to bounce back and shake off this close loss in their two home games next week against Otterbein University and Capital University. Hanover and Otterbein will face-off on Wednesday September 10th at 5:00PM EST, and then on Sunday September 14th at 1:30PM EST they host the Capital University Comets.
