Hanover Sweeps Franklin in HCAC Opener

Hanover, IN - The Panthers (6-9, 2-0 HCAC) opened Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play at home against their rival Franklin College (9-7, 0-2 HCAC). Hanover swept the Grizzlies winning the first game 13-3 and the second game 8-4.

Game 1
In The Box
Hanover got seven runs across over the span of four innings. The scoring started in the third inning on a Senior Josh Simpson (Bardstown, KY) two RBI single. Freshman Jack Shaeffer (West Lafayette, IN) added to the riun total with a two run homerun giving the Panthers a lead of 7-2 going into the seventh inning. 


In the seventh inning, Freshman Kadin Bush (New Albany, IN) added a solo shot before walking it off in the eighth inning with a three RBI double.
 
On The Bump
Senior John Girard (Richmond, KY) got the task of starting the game and tossed seven strong innings allowing only three earned runs and striking out eight. Junior Ashton Carie (Madison, IN) closed out the game allowing no hits and striking out one.

In The Box
In the fourth inning, the Panthers came alive scoring six runs. The party started on a three RBI double down the left field line and ended on a Jack Shaeffer RBI single up the middle. 


The final runs came in the sixth and seventh inning with Sophomore Ben Brittingham (Brownsburg, IN) scoring the eighth and final run of the day.

On The Bump
Sophomore Wyatt Colvin (Prospect, KY) got the start and went a distance of seven innings allowing only four earned runs and striking out seven. Freshman Parker Heaney (Carmel, IN) finished the last two innings giving up no runs. 


Hanover looks to stay perfect in conference play when they take on Earlham in a double header on Sunday. Game time is set for 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM EST.
