ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Hanover (1-2-1 overall) battled no. 14 ranked WashU on Friday afternoon, falling 2-1.

Hanover was led by senior
John Azzara with one goal on two shots. As a unit, Hanover combined for a game-high 11 shots, six of which landed on frame.

Patrick Schoellig tallied two saves through 89 minutes of work.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Hanover looked to take the early lead as junior
Nico Gotoh fired a shot in the 14 th minute that was saved by the WashU goalkeeper.
Freshman
Joe Luther pressured the WashU backline as he recorded shots in both the 27th minute and the 29th minute that came up empty handed.
The Panthers broke through in the 30 th minute as Azzara found the back of the net off an assist from Luther.
However, WashU responded with goals in the 32nd minute and the 52nd minute to secure the 2-1 victory.
Hanover returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 15 when they take on Division I opponent Bellarmine.
