Matt Brown joined the Hanover College football coaching staff in the winter of 2016 after spending the prior three seasons at Franklin College.

In his first year with the Panthers, dealing mainly with the offensive line, Brown helped improve the running game by close to 20 yards per contest, while also allowing four less sacks than the year prior in the passing game.

The 2017 season saw the rushing attack continue to improve, jumping up 25 yards to 129.0 yards per game. Hanover's ground game topped 200 yards in three games last fall and have done so five times in Brown's tenure. Pass protection also improved in 2017, as the squad allowed two fewer sacks than the fall prior.  

The success on the ground continued into the 2018 season where the back field saw a 42 yard increase, averaging 171.5 yards per game. The Panther rushing game surpassed 300 yards on two separate occasions, the first in Brown's tenure. Hanover also saw three lineman earn All-Conference honors.

Following the 2019 season, Brown landed six All-Conference accolades on the offensive side of the ball including the Offensive Player of the Year Shawn Coane. The backfield proved to be among the best in the HCAC as they ranked among the top in yards per game, rushing yards per game, and total points. 

The spring 2021 season (fall season canceled due to Covid-19) saw an offensive explosion by the Blue and Red, recording three games with 50 plus points. The Panther offense turned in two 500 yard plus games, including a season best 549 yards in the team's victory over Bluffton. Hanover finished the campaign averaging 241.8 rushing yards per game, while providing 215.2 yards through the air. 

In the fall of 2021, the Panther offense success continued as he landed four lineman on the HCAC All-conference team who ranked second in the HCAC in average yards per game (28.6), first in total rushing yards per game (202.1), and second in avderage passing yards per game (230.7). 

During Brown’s time at Franklin, the Grizzlies earned at least a share of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship in all three seasons. In his final campaign with FC, the Grizzly ground attack rushed for 1,800 yards, with the offensive line equally as strong in pass protection where they allowed just 10 sacks in 11 games.

Prior to his time at Franklin, Brown spent one year as the Tight Ends coach for Ohio Wesleyan. The Battling Bishops produced a 9-1 record, while also earning a share of the North Coast Athletic Conference title in 2012.

A graduate from Baldwin Wallace College (Ohio) in 2012, Brown was a four-year member with Yellow Jacket football program. During his four years at BW, Brown was a one-time letter winner, while also spending one season as a student-coach, working with the junior varsity offensive line and running backs.
