TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Hanover women's soccer team played to a double overtime push with Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Rose-Hulman on Wednesday evening, 1-1.
Hanover moves to 11-0-3 overall and 6-0-1 HCAC and sits in a three way tie for first place with Anderson and Mt. St. Joseph.
The opening half saw a very back-an-forth battle with neither team really giving an edge when junior Ainsleighg Spalding (Independence, Ky.) was able to get a shot on frame that was saved by the Fightin' Engineers goalkeeper.
Hanover got another chance late into the stanza as senior
Kelsey Hughes (Noblesville, Ind.) missed right before sophomore
Cassidy Lett (Walton, Ky.) got a look at goal that was saved once more. The Panthers edged the Fightin' Engineers in shots 6-4.
The second half saw a slow start as both teams continued to navigate the respective defensive efforts when Rose-Hulman delt the first blow.
However, Hanover wasted little time responding as sophomore
Bri Matis (Liberty Twp., Ohio) fired a bullet that beat the FIghtin' Engineers goalkeeper in the 71
st minute to force extra time, 1-1.
Extra time would see both teams come up empty handed as the Panthers fired off three shots to Rose-Hulman's five total attempts.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 23 when they welcome Anderson. Game time is set for 1 PM.
