LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Hanover volleyball team traveled to Transylvania on Wednesday evening taking on the Pioneers in a key Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match-up. The Panthers fell in the battle 3-1 (27-25, 28-30, 24-26, 18-25).
The Panthers move to 12-9 overall on the season and 4-2 HCAC.
The opening set did not disappoint as it set the tone for a top tier match-up as Hanover was able to capture the tight 27-25 victory. Hanover recorded 15 total kills in the set for a set high .263 hitting percentage. Pacing the Panthers was freshman
Maggie Schweitzer (Shelbyville, Ind.) from the service line as she was able to give HC the 24-23 advantage. Junior
Emma Harmon (Carmel, Ind.) handled the rest as she took a pass from senior
Kelsey Ketcham (Mishawaka, Ind.) to secure the victory.
The edge of your seat battle continued into the second set as kills from senior
Maddie Edwards (Jasper, Ind.) and senior
Maura Dankoski (Fishers, Ind.) saw HC claim the slim 23-22 advantage. Junior
Adrianne Vance (Indianapolis, Ind.) would deem clutch late into the set as she was able to lock the score at 25-25 before a Panther miscue and a Transylvania kill knotted the matc at 1-1. Hanover charted a contest best 20 kills on 51 attempts.
Set three, Hanover found themselves on the wrong side of a 17-11 deficit when they rattled off five straight points paced by Schweitzer to pull within 17-16. However, the Pioneers remained poise as they were able to chart the final two points for the 26-24 win.
Transylvania dominated the final set of the evening recording 16 kills on a .275 hitting percentage for the 25-18 victory. The Pioneers claimed the match 3-1.
Hanover returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 21 when they celebrate senior day with Centre. Game time is set for 7 PM.
