HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover Panthers celebrated senior night with a 3-1 (25-27, 25-11, 27-25, 25-19) victory over non-conference opponent Centre on Thursday evening.
Hanover celebrated the accomplishments of seniors
Maddie Edwards (Jasper, Ind.),
Emma McPeek (North Vernon, Ind.),
Maura Dankoski (Fishers, Ind.) and
Kelsey Ketcham (Mishawaka, Ind.).
With the win, HC improves to 13-9 overall, while Centre falls to 16-5.
The opening set would see Hanover post a game-high 14 kills led by junior
Emma Harmon (Carmel, Ind.). Harmon helped propel the Panthers to the 13-8 advantage when Edwards provided a series of kills that pushed the difference to 17-11. However, Centre rallied scoring seven straight points to tie the contest at 24-24 before going on to take set one.
The Panthers trailed early in set two when a junior
Meredith Deckard (Bedford, Ind.) service ace put HC on top 12-7. Hanover kept the momentum as they rattled off five straight points to blow the set wide open. Harmon prevailed securing the set for the Blue and Red 25-11. The Panthers posted an impressive .396 hitting percentage with 12 kills.
The Colonels dominated set three as they jumped out to the 7-1 lead. But the excitement didn't last long as the Panthers came storming back behind the service of Ketcham who knotted the set at 13-13. Dankoski and Edwards handled the rest as they completed the comeback to put HC on top, 2 sets to 1.
Hanover used a series of runs in the final set getting back-to-back kills from Harmon to give HC the convincing 18-11 advantage. Centre looked to rally but came up empty handed as the Panthers scored the final five points of the evening to claim the 3-1 non-conference victory.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 23 when they take on Anderson. Game time is set for 2 PM.
