HANOVER, Ind. – In a battle of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference best the Panthers fell in a heartbreaker to the Lions of Mount St. Joseph, 1-0.
Hanover concludes the regular season at 12-1-3 overall, 7-1-1 HCAC and will claim the no. 2 seed as part of the HCAC Tournament.
In a very competitive battle, Mt. St. Joseph was able to provide the one and only dagger with just 15 minutes remaining in the opening frame as a cross into the 18-yard box eluded the Panther defense for the 1-0 advantage.
Hanover tallied 12 first half shots including a late attempt from sophomore
Bri Matis (Liberty Twp., Ohio) which she placed on frame but was saved by the Lion keeper.
The Panthers hunted for the equalizer early in the second half as senior
Maggie Day (Sellersburg, Ind.) fired a strike from just outside the 18-yard box that missed right of frame.
They continued on the attack as Day got another close-range attempt in the 74
th minute that missed wide.
The Panthers final attempt came with just seconds on the clock as Matis got one final shot that was saved by the MSJ defense.
Hanover returns to action at the Soccer Complex on Wednesday, Nov. 3 for the semifinal round of the HCAC Tournament.
