DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Hanover volleyball team remained perfect in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action as they defeated Defiance 3-1 (25-17, 25-18, 21-25, 25-16) on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Hanover moved to 11-7 overall, 3-0 HCAC.
The Panthers were paced by junior
Emma Harmon (Carmel, Ind.) and junior
Adrianne Vance (Indianapolis, Ind.) tying a game-high 14 kills. Senior
Kelsey Ketcham (Mishawaka, Ind.) dished out 38 assists.
The opening set saw domination by the Panthers as they tallied a convincing 15 kills on a .333 hitting percentage. After trailing 10-8 in the set, Hanover cranked it up as a 7-0 rally paced by Ketcham sent HC out in front 17-12. The domination continued as Harmon tallied back-to-back kills securing the set one victory.
Set two would see Hanover surge ahead as freshman
Maggie Schweitzer (Shelbyville, Ind.) used accurate serving to push the difference to 9-3. Defiance looked to steal the momentum when Harmon deemed clutch once more securing the 25-18 win. Hanover tallied 11 kills in the set.
After dropping set three, the Panthers erupted charting a .213 hitting percentage led by senior
Maddie Edwards (Jasper, Ind.). Edwards capped off a 4-0 run that saw HC capture the 20-13 lead. Vance secured the contest moments later for the final point of the afternoon.
Hanover returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 13 when they welcome Mt. St. Joseph to Collier Arena. Game time is set for 7 PM.
