RICHMOND, Ind. – The Hanover baseball team wrapped up the weekend with a trip to Ealrham. The Panthers fell in game one 9-7 before rallying to take game two, 9-4.
GAME ONE
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the second inning, Hanover responded as senior
Zeke Porta (Louisville, Ky.) hit a double to right center scoring sophomore
Jake Brackett (Brownsburg, Ind.).
But the Quakers tacked on three runs in the bottom of the third inning as a Panther miscue led to the 4-1 advantage. However, freshman
Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.) would get two runs back in the top of the fifth inning as he doubled to right center scoring both junior
Andrew Littlefield (Louisville, Ky.) and Porta.
The sixth inning would see the Panthers pull within 8-6 as Littlefield hit a homerun to left field that sent three more runners to the plate, but Earlham deemed to much as they were able to secure the 9-7 victory.
GAME TWO
The Panther struck first in game two as Littlefield hit a triple that set the stage for junior
Charlie Burton (Columbus, Ind.). Burton delivered with an RBI to the shortstop that scored the game's first run, 1-0.
Hanover tacked on five more runs in the top of the second inning. Sophomore
Jake Brackett (Brownsburg, Ind.) started the scoring frenzy with a double to right field scoring sophomore
Le'ron Fleming (Indianapolis, Ind.). He would score moments later off the bat of senior
Zeke Porta (Louisville, Ky.) who singled to left center plating both Brackett and freshman Eric Roudebusch (New Palestine, Ind.), 4-1.
Junior
Andrew Littlefield (Louisville, Ky.) provided the final two runs of the inning as he reached on a Quaker miscue before stealing second allowing Porta to steal home, 6-1.
However, Earlham continued to hang around as they plated two Quaker base runners in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 6-3.
Hanover had other things in mind as freshman
Connor Farnsley (Jeffersonville, Ind.) and freshman
Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.) connected for back-to-back homeruns in the next half inning to extend the Panther advantage to 8-3. The Blue and Red tacked on another run in the seventh inning as Roudebush hit an RBI single to center field, scoring Fleming, 9-4.
The Quakers would pull within three runs scoring two in the seventh inning before the Panthers were able to retire the side in the bottom of the ninth inning to earn the split.
